Why Am I Required to Show a Picture ID to Have My Password Reset?

Why Do I Have To Show My ID?

A student's information is readily available to them through their myLSU account. Access to myLSU account is controlled by a password. If the password is shared with someone else or someone else somehow becomes aware of the password, that other person could potentially:

  • Sign on to myLSU account and view whatever is there to view (grades, schedules, directory information, W-2.)
  • Sign on to myLSU account and make changes (add or drop courses, change your directory information, change your FERPA options, etc.)
  • Access other applications such as Moodle, Workday, e-mail, etc.
  • Change myLSU password.

An employee's compromised myLSU account could also lead a malicious actor to sensitive information such as student information, departmental documents, sensitive personal information through HR system, and other critical data.

For these reasons, this is the ONLY option to reset myLSU Password under the following conditions:

You have not set up a Password Reset Question (Find out how to Set up a Password Reset Question.

OR

You have set up a Password Reset Question but you cannot answer it correctly, & You cannot remember your myLSU Account password.

You must come to the Service Desk with a photo ID or contact the Service Desk (call or chat) to initiate a remote meeting, if you meet either of the aforementioned conditions. When calling, chatting, or visiting the Service Desk to request a password reset, you must have a valid Photo ID. Please note, if you call or chat the Service Desk, you will need to have an enabled web cam for the remote meeting.

More information and directions can be found in the ITS Service Desk Overview.

LSU Employees located in Shreveport, Eunice, Alexandria, and AgCenter Parish Offices should contact their respective campus' Account administrators for password assistance. To view a list of local Account administrators, please visit GROK Article 19652.

THE ACCOUNT OWNER (THE INDIVIDUAL HIMSELF OR HERSELF) MUST CONTACT THE SERVICE DESK OR VISIT US IN PERSON. NO PROXY INDIVIDUALS WILL BE HONORED.

NOTE: LSU is required by Federal Law (FERPA) to protect student information. For this and the above reasons, LSU must be sure that we do not reset a forgotten password except for the person to whom the account is assigned.
