LSU Online: Technical Requirements


Overview

This page lists requirements and suggestions for LSU Online students to enjoy full functionality of their courses. If students have questions about specific requirements for a course, they should consult the university catalog or the course instructor. Computer and Internet Connection

Required:

  • Desktop computer, laptop, or mobile device (please note that although Moodle and some software are compatible with any smart device, some course components may not be compatible with a specific device).
  • A reliable internet connection, high speed broadband recommended. No extensions or waivers will be granted for problems with an internet service provider (ISP).

 

*A note on Chromebooks and other tablets: Although many students use Chromebooks to complete course work, the use of this device for taking a Moodle course is not recommended. Chromebooks and tablet devices are not compatible with ProctorU software.

 

Other Devices and Equipment

Some courses may require:

  • A webcam
  • A headset with microphone
  • Working speakers

Operating System:

  • Windows (recommended Windows 8 or above)
  • Mac OS X
  • Linux
  • Mobile: iOS, Android

 

Web Browser (latest version):

  • Google Chrome
  • Safari
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Mozilla Firefox

 

Some courses may require the following to complete work outside of Moodle:

  • Adobe Flash (latest version)
  • Javascript enabled
  • Microsoft Office (latest version)
  • Other word processing or slideshow programs
  • Multimedia software (audio or video production or manipulation)
  • Industry-specific software

 

Reminder for Section 508: ADA Compliance

The following are required to meet accessibility standards:

  • Videos with audio should be captioned.
  • Audio files need text transcripts.
  • Images should include alternative text or descriptions.
  • Hyperlink text should be self-describing.
  • Color and bolding should not be used to convey meaning.
  • Tables should include row and column headers and captions.
  • Documents and files should be created using formatting tools native to the program.
