Apple Time Capsule: Connect to LSU's Network
When setting up a Time Capsule device on LSU's network, certain measures need to be taken to ensure university network policies are followed. (See PS-131 Network Security for more information.)
- Connect the Ethernet cable to your Time Capsule using the Ethernet WAN port. DO NOT plug anything into the LAN ports.
- Register the Time Capsule in NetReg:
- Navigate to netreg.lsu.edu.
- Login with MyLSU credentials.
- Click the link that says Click Here to register your game system or printer.
- Enter the Time Capsule's Mac address (also known as an Ethernet ID).
- Select Other from the Select Type drop-down.
- Click submit.
- Open AirPort Utility (located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on a computer using Mac OS X, and in Start > All Programs > AirPort on a computer using Windows), select the Time Capsule, and then click Continue.
- If you are already connected to LSU's wireless network, you will be prompted to switch networks to configure the Time Capsule. Press OK.
- Name the Time Capsule a name to identify it. Secure the Time Capsule by entering user name and password, and select other settings as needed for your Time Capsule use. Click Continue.
- On the next screen, select I want to connect Time Capsule to my computer or network using Ethernet, and press Continue.
- Review the Time Capsule's settings, and press Update.
- If a message appears stating that the device will be temporarily unavailable so new settings can be applied, click Continue.
- Verify that the wireless is disabled to ensure compliance with LSU network policies:
- Open the Airport Utility.
- Select the Time Capsule.
- Click Manual Setup.
- Select the Wireless tab.
- For the Wireless Mode drop-down, select Off.
- Click Update.
If you have already set up a Time Capsule but did not follow the steps above, the wireless will need to be disabled to be compliant with LSU network policies:
- Open the Airport Utility.
- Select the Time Capsule.
- Click Manual Setup.
- Select the Wireless tab.
- For the Wireless Mode drop-down, select Off.
- Click Update.
